In June of 2026, I decided to make an app. How hard could it be? I’d already learned some programming for an earlier project where I replaced myself on social media (If this is how you found out that I did that, then sorry!) so I assumed that making a quick webpage that I could package into an executable wouldn’t be too big of a challenge. I was right!
Magic Scroll is an app I built around some frustrations I had with other music apps (Namely things like Ultimate Guitar) where it felt like there was a predatory amount of ads for something with such simple features that could so easily be improved upon. Musicians deserve better. No adverts, no bloat, no messing around. Hands-free playing across as many instruments as necessary. Chords, lead sheets, and sheet music. Bring your own songs, play by your own rules.
After proving out the concept on my website, I received an anonymous donation to publish it to app stores so I set about learning to do that (More tedious and difficult than I assumed it’d be!) and adding as many new features as I thought would help. I probably overdid it as a beginner project. But I wanted to make something special that could really help people make music together. That’s what it’s all about, right?
